This is the first of what will be many posts on pregnancy, labor and birth according to me....
Although my history is short in regards to the realm of childbirth, there are a few notable distinctions that will hopefully make what I have to say at least partially valid. The first note is the fact that I am a woman, the only gender to authentically know what it is to be pregnant and to give birth. Secondly, I am a mother who is fortunate enough to have experienced natural childbirth in the comfort of my own home. Thirdly, I am a birth doula and have helped women though both pregnancy and labor to harness their deep birthing powers. Lastly, I am a student Midwife eagerly soaking up the wisdom that has been passed down through the ages from the Midwives past.
Though much of what I intend to chronicle will include historical and current research and media, I will also state my personal opinions on such topics. Do know, that my opinions are strong, especially in regards to current philosophies of childbirth. Although I respect all laboring mothers for the hard work they undoubtedly do, I fully believe that for the healthy mother and fetus, that childbirth is a natural event and in most cases should not be interfered with. More on this to come....!
That all being said, please feel free to post comments, to suggest topics or to ask questions. I am a less than private person and typically have no problem discussing issues that others may shy away from!
I look forward to this process and hope for it to be more of a dialog than a monologue!
Peace
